"This opportunity is brought to you by Team SAMMAT for free."

We have multiple platforms these days to entertain ourselves with movies. In all probability, we can never run out of movies to watch. These carefully directed and acted pieces can actually turn out to be great sources of inspiration for people of all age groups.

Of course with old age, people don’t look for much inspiration but simple ways to relax. But for school students, movies are a great way to have fun (of course) and also find new ways to inspire yourself with different stories and new concepts to learn.

In this article, we will talk about the 5 Best Movies for School Students which all of you should watch if you are seeking inspiration.

Forrest Gump

A 1994 American movie, Forrest Gump is named after its protagonist, Forrest Gump, who is a loyal and serious child with leg braces. It is a comedy-drama film, which has manifolds of phases and twists and turns which can be very exciting to watch. It is directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Eric Roth

The movie stars Tom Hanks (who plays Forrest Gump), Robin WrightGary SiniseMykelti Williamson, and Sally Field. Forrest Gump is from Alabama and the movie beautifully takes us through this life – from childhood to the time he settles in marriage.

The movie shows the great resilience of a child, who is often bullied by his classmates but finds ways to protect himself by running away or escaping. The little boy has a great IQ and reflects back on his life while sitting on a bench and narrating his life’s stories to a complete stranger.

One of the kids aged 13 years old has written this review for the movie on Common Sense Media“To those that are reading (parents, kids or whoever, lol). This movie is outstanding, Tom Hank did probably some of his best acting overall. I was very touched by this movie and it had a very strong message about love and never giving up.

I actually did watch this movie a while ago back when I was probably about 7 and I understood a lot of it but didn’t feel as attached to it and see the true meaning of the movie now that I’m a little older. The scene where Forrest Gump met his son really touched me the most probably since I can relate, I lost my father when I was 6.”

Overall, this movie teaches a number of lessons to children (especially school students). Some important lessons are to never stop fighting for the things that really matter to you and to never give up on friendship. You’ll find a sense of connection with Tom Hanks as you watch the movie, which is why, we recommend you to go watch it if you haven’t yet.

Taare Zameen Par

Taare Zameen Par is a 2007 Hindi movie produced and directed by Aamir Khan, who also is an actor in the movie. The other actors starring in the movie are Darsheel SafaryTanay ChhedaVipin Sharma, and Tisca Chopra

The movie majorly is a spotlight on the life and development of little Ishaan (played by Darsheel Safary), who is considered to be a little different from the other children in his school or circle. Ishaan is 9 years old in the movie and loves art, but continues to perform poorly in academics, which leads his parents to send him to boarding school.

Here at school, he finds a teacher named Nikumbh (the character played by Aamir Khan) who diagnoses his dyslexic condition and eventually gets him out of his issues with reading, writing, and excelling at studies.

The movie sends a strong message to young people about overcoming fears and talking to people about the things that trouble them. At boarding school, Ishaan Awasthi has a disabled friend who prevents him from committing suicide when he plans on doing it someday after being troubled by some issues.

Shubra Gupta, who is a film critic and senior columnist with the Indian Express writes“This has to be Hindi cinema’s first attempt in recent times to get a child so right. Bollywood’s blights — preciousness and artifice — are banished. Ishaan comes across as a real, breathing, living child who struggles to make sense of things which are so ridiculously simple for other kids: first-time actor Darsheel Safary, all buck teeth, expressive frowns, and wide smiles, lights up the screen.”

The Karate Kid

The Karate Kid is a 2010 martial arts drama movie about a 12-year-old boy, Dre Parker (played by Jaden Smith), who moves from Detroit to Beijing with his widowed mother since she gets a job in the latter.

Dre, unfortunately, gets bullied by some older boys in his new school in Beijing and escapes these mean boys as much as he can. One day, he meets Mr. Han (played by Jackie Chan). Dre somehow gets to know that Mr. Han was once a Kung Fu teacher. As the situations unravel, Dre wishes to learn Kung Fu from Mr. Han to defend himself from these boys at school.

Meanwhile, Dre also meets a girl named Meiying who plays the violin and who he really likes. Without revealing the entire story to you, we would simply recommend this masterpiece to anybody who is reading this article.

As school students, some of the basic lessons we should learn from this movie are about self-defence, perseverance, tolerance, and integrity. Dre Parker has all these qualities in him in the movie and everybody should witness the magic of Kung Fu at least once by watching this movie.

As an Indian student or someone who is not Chinese, this movie can be a great source of entertainment also because of the Chinese culture that this movie showcases to its audience. You will witness the beauty of the Great Wall of China, the streets of Beijing, the art of the enigmatic ‘snake stance’ that piques Dre’s interest, playful flirting between young lovers, and so much more!

3 Idiots

3 Idiots is another great Hindi/Bollywood movie with Aamir Khan again as one of the actors. The movie is centred around friendships in college. Even though it doesn’t have any connection to school per se, it’s still a good watch for school students to prepare for the coming college days.

One amazing thing about this movie is its striking rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie was released in 2009 and is a comedy-drama movie. 3 Idiots was edited and directed by Rajkumar Hirani, co-written by Abhijat Joshi and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

It is said to have been based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel Five Point Someone. Alongside Aamir Khan are R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi. This trio is the main group in the movie that the movie is centred around. Apart from these primary roles, other actors like Kareena KapoorOmi Vaidya, and Boman Irani are also present.

The three of these actors (the trio) are roommates in this movie. Farhan (played by Madhavan) and Raju (played by Sharman) meet ‘Rancho’ which is short for Ranchhoddas (played by Aamir himself). They are students at the Imperial College of Engineering in Delhi and the movie rhythmically walks the viewers through the exciting journey they have as students in their college days.

Lisa Tsering, a Top Critic on Rotten Tomatoes and a reporter at Hollywood Reporter writes“A great part of the film’s appeal is Aamir Khan, who has come to specialize in heroic iconoclasts, such as a rebellious villager in “Lagaan” or a visionary teacher of special-needs kids in “Taare Zameen Par.” As Rancho, a young engineer of dazzling inventiveness, Khan conveys smarts, mischief and, finally, compassion, as he spurs his friends on to greatness before he mysteriously disappears.”

There are many ups and downs in the movie (which makes it a great rollercoaster-like masterpiece) and you can sometimes even feel like bawling like a baby because of how rich it is in emotions.

School students can take away different lessons from this movie. One of the most important ones is to always tell your heart that everything is going to be alright or is alright because it’s very easy to convince your heart and make it believe in anything you want it to believe.

The movie also shouts friendship and makes you believe in its power, which is really important for you as students to watch it or for you as parents/guardians/teachers to make the kids around you watch the movie.

Dead Poets Society

A 1989 American drama film, Dead Poets Society is the best suited for students who have an artistic flair and a deep interest in literature and poetry. However, even if you are not one of those students, you should still watch it for the strong message it sends out to people.

The movie is directed by Peter Weir and written by Tom Schulman. The main attraction of the movie is Robin Williams who plays a playful and ideal teacher in the movie.

The movie is set in a fictional boarding school called Welton Academy, where John Keating (Robin Williams) is an English teacher who has very unconventional methods of teaching poetry to his students. The scene is set in Vermont where the students eventually learn how their teacher was a part of the ‘Dead Poets Society’ once.

All of them gradually plan to meet each other in a dingy spot to read poetry together.

The movie unfurls different aspects altogether, one of them being how Neil (one of the students) wishes to pursue his career in acting while his father wants him to study medicine at Harvard.

With a strong rating of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes, Dead Poets Society is one of its kind and a movie we strongly recommend to all school students, especially the ones who love a good teacher with a side of poetry every once in a while.

Enjoy watching all these movies. You won’t regret it!
