Applications are invited for National Fellowship & Scholarship for Higher Education of ST Students 2023-24 by Ministry of Tribal Affairs. The last date of application is 31 August 2023.

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India invites online applications for National Fellowship under the scheme “National Fellowship & Scholarship for Higher Education of ST Students” for the year 2023-24. The fellowship is awarded to candidates selected for pursuing Ph.D/integrated M.Phil+Ph.D programmes.

About the Ministry

The Ministry was set up in 1999 after the bifurcation of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment with the objective of providing more focused approach on the integrated socio-economic development of the Scheduled Tribes (STs).

Objective

The scheme provides financial assistance to ST students for pursuing higher studies courses of M.Phil and Ph.D in India.

Eligibility

• The candidate belonging to ST should have passed the Post-Graduation examination for being eligible for the Fellowship. The candidate should get admission and registration for regular and full time M.Phil / Ph.D Courses in Indian Universities / Institutions / Colleges as indicated below:-
  • Universities/lnstitutions/Colleges included under section 2 (f) / 12(B) or 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC Act.
  • Deemed to be Universities included under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 and eligible to receive grants-in-aid from UGC.
  • Universities/ Institutions/ Colleges funded by Central/ State Government
  • lnstitutes of National lmportance.
• The ST students once considered eligible for the Fellowship shall not be entitled for any
  other scholarship of the Centre or State Government the same study
• The fellowship shall be payable once the student has secured admission and started the
  research work.

No. of Slots

The total number of fresh fellowships each year is 750.

Duration

The maximum duration for which the fellowships are available is given below: –

• Enrollment of M.Phil.: 2 years
• Ph.D Exclusively: 5 years
• Enrollment of Ph.D after completion of M.Phil: 2 years (M.Phil) & 3 years (Ph.D)
